Christianity is a personal relationship with the Creator of the universe
letter to editor

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

This is in response to Jill Richardson’s column on Oct. 19, 2018 “Kids need age-appropriate sex ed and orientation.”

There is no doubt the change agents of secularism have made inroads into our culture over the past 40 to 50 years. Secular Humanism has become the dominate belief system in our country, but who among us would know it is a religion. In 1961 the U.S. Supreme Court cited Secular Humanism as a religion in the case Torcaso v. Watkins (367 U.S. 488). In the 1970s, prominent humanists forged a new philosophy entitled, “Humanist Manifesto”.

Kudos to Jim Prestwood’s letter on Sept. 22.  He wrote, “The Bible provides a solid moral compass to travel today’s world” and that “Our country’s original laws are all based on the Bible.”

When the Reformation swept over Europe, it put the Bible in the hands of the people, revolutionized concepts of government, and set the stage for the American Republic. With the influence of Samuel Rutherford, John Witherspoon, and John Locke, the Bible became the basis of the United States government and law. This is the foundation of our country and I believe the Bible is the standard by which we measure the truth in all words.

Some of the Manifesto’s stated beliefs: 1. Religious humanists regard the universe as self-existing and not created. (Bible: “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was made out of what is visible.” Hebrews 11:3. The Manifesto 2. “We find insufficient evidence for belief in the existence of a supernatural; it is meaningless or irrelevant.” (Bible: Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1. Manifesto 3. No deity will save us; we must save ourselves. (Bible: Turn to me and be saved O man for I am God and there is no other.” Isiah 45.22.) Manifesto 4. In the area of sexuality, we believe for I am God and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:22) Manifesto 4, In the area of sexuality, we believe that intolerant attitudes . . . unduly repress and sexual conduct. (Bible: “Flee immorality” 1 Corinthians 6:1)

Christianity it is a personal relationship with the creator of the universe, Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” true life is within everyone’s reach, just ask Him to come into your life and He will do it.
