Developers are in it to make money

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

Not all developers are to be “cursed”. Those bringing business opportunities are good for Manteca and, if we had a City Council that would review and adjust Manteca’s antiquated growth cap, those developers who would build homes here in the future could be good for us as well.

These new homes being built are huge and mostly unaffordable for the average Mantecan. The majority are being sold to Bay Area people, whose housing market has skyrocketed so they come out here to get “more bang for their buck”. Ask our Mayor and City Council “where are the affordable homes for the Mantecans.”

However, that being said, remember people, developers are not non-profit organizations. You can bet your bottom dollar that they are getting much more than they are giving. If the new home buyers have to pay more for their homes to absorb the generosity of the developers, so be it. That is their choice.

It should be “curse” the Mayor and the City Council for not addressing the issue of the outdated growth cap.

Steve DeBrum, after 11 years as a Council member and Vince Hernandez, after 12 years as a council member, would have us believe that after all those years they will address our many issues. Go back and read statements they’ve made. No promises made, no definitive answers. There have been a lot of statements that include the words “analyze”, “evaluate”, and “look into”. I don’t know about you but I call that “politician speak”. Let them hear “voter speak” of “no more” at this next election.
