Editor, Manteca Bulletin,
The Manteca Branch Library hosted a Dia De Los Ninos celebration on May 2, 2009. Despite rainy weather it was a wonderful time for everyone involved. A grant from Target stores funded many aspects of the event including free books for every child who attended. Entertainment included a special Storytime and Ballet Folklorico Autlense under the direction of Dorio Del Rio courtesy of the P.L.A.Y. Multicultural Arts Network In addition many groups set up tables with craft activities.
Our thanks to El Concilio, the Calla 4-H club, Headstart, and San Joaquin Delta College. In addition thanks go to the Manteca Parks and Recreation staff for providing face painting, the Manteca Historical Society volunteers for manning the popcorn station and the Manteca Fire Department for coming out to share their time with the families.
Target Staff from both the Manteca and Lathrop stores deserve a huge thank you for providing their time, crafts, and balloons. Thank you, Silvia Mendes for another outstanding Spanish language Storytime. And last but not least, thanks to Herb Danielsen and the Kiwins for their energetic participation from set-up to clean-up.
It was very refreshing to see so many members from different facets of our community working together to support this library event. I am grateful to be able to work here in my hometown and to enjoy such rich associations.
