Dont let nut cases drive the gun debate

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

In the major cities of this country (as well as the rest of the world) many men, women and children die daily to alcohol and drug abuse as well as the use of almost every common household item to kill with. The Main Stream Media (MSM) yawns and we go on with our business.

For example, Chicago could be said to experience a slow motion Sandy Hook day all year long, year in and out, and as nearly all of the victims tend to be minorities, the MSM doesn’t get too excitable or show their outrage as it might spoil their gun control narrative reserved for the gun nuts that make their media splash.  Then, when some nut with a gun gets loose, the MSM goes hysteric, slamming every emotion under the sun, to sell their brand of media..... And of course, continue on their avowed mission to disarm law abiding citizens.

Meanwhile, the drunk drivers, the gang banging punks, the drug cartels continue killing........ Where is the MSM horror here? Doesn’t anyone care (other than the victims of all the above?)

In these United States, the estimates for the number of privately owned guns range from 190 million to 300 million, and every day, those millions of firearms stay silent (excepted for the stated above criminals) yet, the emotions of the horrific nut case shootings will drive the leftist to strive for new gun laws on top of old gun laws and more restrictions on top of old restrictions etc. And none will stop or deter the nut case who is bent on the destruction of people in what has become known as “target rich environments”, the so-called gun-free zones.

Placing armed guards or police or arming teachers on the premises all works in places like Israel and could work here too if the general public would demand it from their elected bodies. The MSM would object and ridicule long and loud but could be shut up if enough thinking people speak loud enough.

Guns do not kill people, people kill people and not arming people to resist those who will do them harm is the height of stupidity. Even Gandhi was for armed self defense! In his own words from the text “Between Cowardice and Violence  He who cannot protect himself or his nearest and dearest or their honour by non-violently facing death may and ought to do so by violently dealing with the oppressor........ [When violence] is offered in self-defense or for the defense of the defenseless, it is an act of bravery far better than cowardly submission.

Let the words of Gandhi guide the wisdom of our elected representatives not the yellow journalism of the Main Stream Media with their leftist agenda.
