Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

Manteca is a very patriotic community and it certainly showed last Saturday. The Manteca Mural Society gathered over 50 community volunteers in the Bedquarters parking lot at the corner of Main and Yosemite for the 1st Annual “Fill the Helmet” fundraiser. The goal of which was to raise funds for the Veterans Mural Project.

Because of your generosity we can now complete our salute to the men and women who served in World War II. Thank you again for your generous support of this worthwhile project.

Wow! Veterans and spouses, sons and daughters and grandchildren of veterans made so many heartfelt and touching comments for this project as they dropped in their donations. Some apologized because they wanted to give more. Every contribution matters. We appreciate everyone so much.

The artist, Colleen Mitchell-Veyna, is working diligently to complete this special mural that is titled “The Spirit of America” The dedication date is July 4.

The volunteers from the Manteca Mural Society, the East Union JROTC, the Manteca Interact Club, and Manteca Youth Focus assisted the veteran volunteers from the American Legion Post 249 and the VFW Post 6311 who collected the generous contributions of passersby.

We served hot dogs, chips and a cold drink to all who visited. Thank you to the Park Avenue Jam Band for the live entertainment. Thank you Bedquarters. Ron Cruz you did a great job!
