Let military wage war without Congress

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

No!  Let the military fight the wars not the Congress. (Pat Buchannan’s Monday column; “Let Congress vote on Iraq War III.)

We, as a nation, have not won a war since WWII because the control was wrested from the hands of the military and placed in the hands of the government, by way of Congress.  Now I haven’t got too much against Congress but when you have a leaky faucet, you call a plumber, if a fire you call a fireman, etc., Congress, which I put before you is the government and the government is “the people”.

Congress is safe  back at home while the military is “on site” with a “bird’s eye view” of what is happening at any given moment.  I am not advocating a totalitarian government where military is in charge of everything but when we have leaders that have never walked an inch let alone a mile in their shoes, leading the fracas, then we have the blind leading the blind.  We have an excellent military, let them do their job and for goodness sake! Pay them at least 10% of what Congress has voted for themselves to sit on their “blessed assurance” that they are right and anyone else is wrong.
