Manteca needs its police officers

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,
I was surprised that there was no article about the police layoffs  in Tuesday’s paper, I assumed there would be a reminder that the City Council was voting on this issue Tuesday night.

These gentlemen were walking our area last night (almost dark) passing out very informative information asking for the attendance of the public or if unable to attend then the e-mail addresses were given for the council members so that we can object to these lay-offs. These two gentlemen said they were surprised that a lot of people were not aware of this situation.

The Measure M tax increase to 9.25% (the highest in the county) which was passed in 2006 was supposed to be used for public safety and now we have this plan to lay off 16 to 18 officers in October. What a shame when we have all of the gang and drug problems in Manteca plus all of the other crime. We need our officers.
