‘Mossdale Crossing is Now Open’ mural a success thanks to volunteers
letter to editor

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

“Mossdale Crossing is Now Open” is now fully completed! And it is stunning!

The October 6 & 7 Mural in a Weekend (plus several extra days of painting) is a success! “Mossdale Crossing is Now Open!” is very grand in scale. Over 60 community volunteers helped make this project a huge success. You can read their names and view this masterpiece on the wall of the Spin Cycle Laundry located at 161 E. Yosemite Avenue.

This driving of the final spike on the bridge at the Mossdale Ferry Crossing is a fitting subject for a capstone to Manteca’s Centennial Celebration. This project could not be a reality without the vision and drive of the Manteca Mural Society leadership combined with the support from the City of Manteca and the volunteer efforts of the community.

Muralist Dave Gordon rose to the challenge and designed a mural that will be the talk of the town for years to come.

Dave along with assistance from Mantecans Alan Peterson, Allison Carter, and Gayl Wilson painted 11 extra days after the weekend event to make sure every minute detail of this historic event was captured in the 15.5’ X 64’ mural.

The Manteca Mural Society extends a big thank you to the community volunteers who painted their way into Manteca’s history and made this 32nd mural project possible.

There are other kudos to be given. Bill Barnhart and Art Smith organized a crew to help with the installation of the special fabric on which the mural was painted. Kelly Moore Paints donated the primer paint, Dussau Painting donated labor and equipment to prime paint the wall, B&C Lath & Plaster provided a generous discount for wall preparation, Taqueria la Estrella and Tony & Mrs. K’s Bakery helped feed the volunteers, and Efren Juarez of SpotLight Entertainment filmed the 2 day event.

Lastly, we thank the building owner, PWS Laundry, and Mike Nemetz, the owner of Spin Cycle, and his team of employees.

In a few days you can learn the history of this iconic, historic event as well as view pics and a time-lapse video of the Mural in a Weekend on the MantecaMurals.org website.
