Postal Service is slow to remedy mailbox problem

Editor, Manteca Bulletin

This is a commentary on the United States Postal Service in Manteca.

The problem: Our community mailbox was vandalized in the first week of December. The first week there simply was an absence of mail. The second week I inquired, which resulted in a form “sticker” being placed on the box with no real time information from the Postal Service.

The situation is still ongoing, requiring residents to drive to the Postal Annex in the Manteca Industrial Park. I dropped off a note in mid-December and a letter addressed to our Postmaster on Dec. 29.

On Jan. 4, I picked up my mail from a very kind lady at the counter. She explained that the mailbox was to be removed and a concrete pad installed to prevent someone from driving away with the box.

Solution: Have the carrier simply knock on ach door and attempt delivery.

P.S. I just called the Post Office. After ringing, the recording kicked in with the hours of operation and stated the voice mail box is full. This would never occur if our mail was privatized.
