The wonderful village we call Manteca

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,
Its takes a village to raise a child and luckily for our daughter, Sierra Johnson, the village she was raised in is full of warm, caring and giving people.

Words cannot describe the generosity, support and kindness we have received from the people of this wonderful village that we call Manteca.

In our village, a group of people banned together and called themselves, “Sierra’s Angels”.  Many of these angels are dear friends of ours (and some we don’t even know) who had one goal in common … to work together to help our entire family.  Sierra’s Angels were led by Laura Conway and her staff,  Lori Mackey, Lori Konecny, Greg Leland, Lori Shutler and Jim McGuiness.

Together, they organized a highly successful drive-thru dinner and raffle to benefit our lovely Sierra.  We cannot begin to thank them enough for the countless hours that they spent in making this a huge success that was supported by more than 1500 people in the community!

We have so many groups and individuals from our village that we would like to thank:  Frank and his staff from Fagundes Meats and Catering (the meal was wonderful);  Tevani and Jeff Liotard for supplying the tickets; Sierra High School (Sierra’s alma mater) for the use of their campus;  Sierra High’s 2010 soccer team;  Sierra High’s 2009 - 2010 leadership class; Spreckels Park Juniors baseball team; and Monogram Magic for the Sierra’s Angels T-shirts and the beautiful pillow!  In addition, we want to thank Delta Bank for their services, Kathy Ziakas for printing all of the flyers, and Lori Jackson for organizing the raffle (and to ALL of the donors to the raffle – especially Sierra’s  previous employer: Starbucks on Airport and Highway 120)

It is heartwarming to see how many people came out to show their support.

Ticket purchases, raffle donations, committee involvement, and monetary donations are just a few of the ways that people showed their love and concern for Sierra and our family. Some of you we know – and others we don’t – but in our hearts, we are forever grateful for your support.

Our Sierra has been hospitalized for more than 2 months now.  She has had many complications since she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic  Leukemia with the Philadelphia Chromosome in November 2009.  The battle is a  tough one, but Sierra is a true fighter and she will continue to fight for her  life as she battles this disease.

A very sincere thank you to all of you for the support, love and generosity you have shown our daughter and our family.  We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful village helping us get through this very difficult time.  In our hearts, all of you are ANGELS!

With Sincere appreciation and gratitude we thank you.
