Time to legalize firearms equally

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

Several pages back from the front page, there was a short AP story regarding the Chicago War Zone over the 4th of July weekend.  Starting Thursday afternoon, July 3, through Monday morning on July 7, 82 people were shot, 14 fatally.

Let me do that again: 82 people were shot, 14 dead in an American city on a long holiday weekend.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, basically a gun-free city according to their Democrat leadership.  Legal gun ownership is almost forbidden in the Windy City, however, it seems there are a heck of a lot of illegal firearms there.

If this story originated in another state, say, California, and the shootings occurred at a public gathering place, the media would go ballistic over the news.  Everything and everybody would be mobilized to the max to deal with it, including (leading the charge), the major media outlets.

Yet, they (the major media outlets) are strangely silent when it comes to crime stats in Chicago, as they are about Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, Buffalo, St. Louis, Oakland, Milwaukee, and Newark?  The fact that all of our very poorest cities are run by the Democrat Machines doesn’t prove that Democratic policies lead to high crime and poverty, but it sure suggests it.

Unfortunately, every crime committed with a firearm, taints a legal firearm owner.  Each of the cities mentioned are touted by their Democratic leadership as gun free zones.  Maybe it’s time to legalize firearms equally across this great nation and allow CCW (Concealed Carry Weapon) licenses to be issued to all legal citizens who wish to assume the responsibility of self defense vs. the State Controlled Defense (which isn’t working out too well, so far.  And for people who are worried about the ensuing “bloodbath” shouldn’t, as stats prove in states that allow CCW’s, people don’t kill because there is a gun shop around the corner.  They kill because they make a choice.

Cities like those above, and states like California, and New York, have repeatedly illustrated their disregard for individual rights through legislation that restricts the ability of its citizens to legally purchase and possess firearms, much less carry them concealed for self defense.

Our current regime seems to care more for Central America and Mexico’s children than it does for our own citizens and their children.
