Try to enjoy life instead of complaining

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

I have worked many places in my lifetime. I worked in a steel mill back in Pittsburgh PA for many years till I came to California 43 years ago. On my third trip back to Pennsylvania all the mills were closed down.

I was lucky I got out in time to get a job at Libbey-Owens-Ford. I guess they get all the steel from other countries now and why the East Coast is now called the Rust Belt. Many, many jobs lost and few to replace them.

When I started at Libby Owens Ford there were about 1200 employees and seven bending furnaces. Now I don’t think there are 100 people working there, and no bending furnaces left.  Automation took over and they buy glass from other places now and I believe another country owns most of it now. Many jobs lost again.

Now the Post Office wants to close down many post office buildings. It seems like automation took over here also since people text and also pay bills on the computer. Hardly anyone writes letters anymore except old guys like me!!

The Post Office may also lose many jobs as well. How are we going to get more jobs if we keep going in this direction?

One more thing, when I was a teen and people wanted to go to college, people either had money to go or you got a job and saved up till you could go. Now they think the government should pay for all their education and if you did get a loan for school they don’t want to pay it back. Of course, they want the top-paying jobs and not work their way up to the top. I think getting out of school and working for some time will let yo ggo see where you want to go and enjoy life a little before getting into debt for the rest of your life.

Try to enjoy instead of complaining all the time.
