Upset with cat killings in southeast Manteca

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

I live south of Costco in Manteca between Airport Way and Woodward Avenue near Atherton Drive and Heartsong where cats are being poisoned. One died in September and then during the past three weeks two died and one barely made it. My best friend across the street lost her cat. It had two sisters one died and one barely made it. The vet bills were almost $2,000.

The vet said poisons killed them. My yard guy is a good family friend and watches out in my neighborhood very carefully — plants, landscaping, animals, and cars — basically anything sketchy going on around me. He has a house in mind, we can’t prove it but that is his best guess. My vet office told me to report this to animal control so we can start an investigation. I have lived here for over four years and my friend five years. None of these problems happened until a few new houses were built in our neighborhood. We do not have feral cats. There are about four or five and all have collars.

Now I am left to console a 7-year-old girl, a 10-year-old boy and a 10-month-old female kitty who doesn’t know life without her sister. She is scared. losing weight and pulling out her hair. Life has been hard. I think it is terrible that people kill animals. It was devastating when animals died in Park West a few years back because of anti-freeze.

By the way, antifreeze tests on the cats that were killed came back negative.
