Use dog license surcharge better animal shelter instead

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,
The Manteca City Council is considering raising dog license on the population, to make us pay for maintenance on a dog park that the majority of dog owners won’t even use. They propose spending a huge chunk of park money to erect this park. It wasn’t too long ago that the council was soliciting neighborhood volunteers to erect play equipment for the parks, to save $30,000 to the city. The volunteers simply were pawns used by the city, to free up park spending money for the city. The way I see it is, if you have to assess fees on people to maintain this park, then you shouldn’t build it. If you can’t afford it, you don’t need it.
If dog licensing is raised, then it should be raised to help the crowded dog facility. It seems like a dog run is more important to the council than saving little dogs from extermination.

This park should be maintained by its users, not hired city personnel. If it’s built, then make the users take the responsibility of cleaning up their dogs’ droppings.

The way I see it is, the council is committing a big chunk of park money to shut this group up. I think the council’s attempt to address the deficit is phony. They cut everything to free up their spending cash.
