Black Friday marks the beginning of the holiday season.

With it comes the shopping for a Christmas tree.

Beck’s Holiday Specialties at 1156 N. Union Rd. in Manteca was one of the places that reported steady business throughout that first day.

Owner Rick Beck had been at his usual spot for the better part of 17 years for the past week, setting up shop with his assortment of trees and other holiday needs.

“It’s been a lot like last year,” he said on this day after Thanksgiving.

His lot which also handles deliveries along with tree flocking and wreath had a successful 2015 season.

Beck’s trees are trucked in once a week from the Salem area of Oregon.

His tree varieties are Douglas fir, Grand fir, Nordman fir and Noble.

“We have trees of different sizes, from two- to 15- feet high,” said Beck, who is once again helped out with friends and family.

The operating hours for Beck’s Holiday Specialities are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, opening at 10 a.m. on weekends.

Rick Beck indicated he’ll be here until he runs out of trees. “That’s usually a few days before Christmas,” he added.
