Cell phone sale ends with shots

A cell phone sale went bad when shots were fired at the seller as he ran away from a handgun-toting buyer on a Manteca street at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday.

It was unclear how the sale came about, but Manteca Police officers said the 18-year-old seller of the cell phone, believed to have been an iPhone, met with a 17-year-old buyer at the corner of Wawona Avenue and Union Road near apartment complexes on Manteca’s west side. The buy went bad and the seller reportedly ran eastward on Wawona Avenue with the buyer firing an undetermined number of shots at the fleeing teen, hitting him in the right foot.  The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for his injury, police said. Manteca Police spokesman Sgt. Rob Armasino said the 17-year-old shooter ran to a nearby residence of an associate in the 900 block of El Portal where he was arrested by police half an hour later.  The teen was charged with brandishing a weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm and robbery, police said.
