Man in critical condition

after apartment shooting

A man is in critical condition when he was shot in an apartment early Sunday morning at the complex at 350 North Union Road.

Manteca Police received a call Sunday at 3:21 a.m. of a disturbance at the apartment.

The female caller reported that her husband had shot a male inside the apartment. The female caller was disconnected while talking on the telephone. Dispatch was unable to re-establish contact. When officers arrived, they were also unable to establish contact with anyone inside the residence.

A 35-year-old adult male was seen by officers looking out the apartment window, but would not respond or come outside. After repeated unsuccessful attempts to communicate with anyone inside the apartment, the Crisis Response Team and SWAT team were notified and responded.

When contact was attempted by the Crisis Response Team negotiators, the same 35-year-old male could be seen again inside the apartment. He came outside at the direction of officers. Once the male was detained, SWAT made entry into the residence. An adult male was found inside unresponsive with a life-threatening gunshot wound. The female who called the police department was located upstairs. The 35-year-old female was uninjured. The male with the gunshot wound was transported by ambulance to an area hospital and his condition is critical.

The male who was initially detained by SWAT officers is currently in custody for the shooting. No further details were available.
