Ripon board to hear English pilot program

Kathy Coleman, who is Ripon Unified’s Director of Curriculum and Categorical Program, is scheduled to give an update on the English Language/Development programs at the various school sites during tonight’s’s school board meeting.During the 7 p.m. open session at the Ripon City Hall Council Chamber, 259 N. Wilma Ave., she’ll have 12 teachers who are currently participating in the kindergarten-through-fifth-grade English Language / Development pilot program.Coleman has another 13 teachers involved in the sixth-through-12th grade English Language / Development pilot.“Samples of all the programs are being rotated around the (school) sites, so all teachers have access and opportunities for discussion with those piloting,” she added.Coleman is hoping that further discussion in this matter will lead to textbook recommendations perhaps during the June or July school board sessions.In other agenda items:uThe new teachers for the upcoming 2016-17 school year will be introduced to the board.uTrustees will recognize the Ripon Rotary Club for their generous donations of dictionaries to all third-grade students of RUSD.uThey’ll give kudos to Marianne Chakraverty for donating her time in organizing the first-ever Math Madness Night.uThe board is also looking to allocate an additional $50,000 from the budget for the restroom renovation project taking place at the Ripon High stadium.For more information, call the district office at 209.599.2131 or log on to www.riponusd.net.
