Troop treat packing event at senior center

For the first time, the Manteca Senior Center will take part in a packing event benefiting the Cpl. Charles O. Palmer II Memorial Troop Support Program.

People of all ages are welcome to attend the Wednesday, March 30, gathering which is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

The center is located at 296 Cherry Lane.

“If you have a loved one or friend who is deployed and would like us send them a care package, please e-mail their address (to cplpalmersupport@aol.com),” said Chuck Palmer, father of Cpl. Palmer II.

Needed to put into these packages to be shipped abroad are the following items:

uCorrespondence items – Paper, pens, pocket-sized tablets along with small battery-operated fans, hand warmers, and batteries.

uTravel-size entertainment items – Games, toys, cards, squirt guns, dice, water balloons, CDs, DVDs.

uPersonal hygiene items – Soap, shampoo, lotion, hand sanitizer, toothbrush, toothpaste, and dental floss.

uFeminine hygiene items – Pads, tampons, etc.

uHigh protein snacks – Jerky, energy bars, nuts, candy / gum, and individual servings of packaged fruits, meats, pastas, puddings, cereals and other non-perishables.

uFood seasonings/condiments – Sugar, salt, pepper, powered creamers, ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise packets.

uPersonal grooming items – Nail clippers, lip balm, unscented wipes, combs, brushes and disposable razors.

uMiscellaneous – Hand towels, wash cloths, socks.

Donations will be accepted throughout the week at the following locations – Manteca Senior Center, Smog Tech (195 S. Union St. Manteca), Armor Up (2511 N. Tracy Blvd. Tracy), and Freedom Smog (830 Kansas Ave. C 1, Modesto).

Cost to ship out one box is $15.90. In which case, check donations are acceptable and payable to: Cpl. Palmer II MTSP.

Cash donations are also acceptable.
