Balanced Lancers trounce first-year Spartans

LATHROP — East Union High’s sophomore girls basketball team kept first-year Lathrop off balanced with its inside-outside attack in its 66-41 victory Monday.
The Squires improved to 9-1 in Valley Oak League play, and 15-4 overall.
Millicent Puahi-Olangca fired in 17 points to lead East Union. Center Brittany LaMar churned out 12 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, and Morgan Hulsebosch added 11 points. Katrina Camara chipped in five points and seven boards.
Lathrop (6-6, 10-12) was paced by Erika Sanchez’s 12 points.
“They were a lot bigger and stronger than us inside, and they were hitting their shots from outside,” Lathrop coach Ed Fang said. “They were very hard to defend. East Union is a good and well-coached team.”
Ripon 35, Escalon 24
In Ripon, Emily Lewis led the Indians to a Trans Valley League victory with 13 points, while Hannah Allen chipped in 10.
Freshman
East Union 58, Lathrop 15
In Lathrop, the Pages (8-2) got a boost from Destiny Bishop’s 16 points. Kristin Piasaki added 14 points to the cause, and Allison Telles chimed in with eight.
“Destiny had her best game tonight,” East Union coach Larissa Founds said. “She hustled constantly and played great defense.”
