WESTON RANCH – Marcean Bryant scored 18 points on a pair of 3-pointers and grabbed eight steals Tuesday night as the Weston Ranch sophomore girls basketball team ran past Sonora, 45-35.
But Bryant wasn’t alone.
Emily Medrios put in overtime, scoring 10 and added 10 boards for a double-double, and Noelle Boston added seven rebounds and a pair of steals.
“It was a team win,” Cougars head coach Jenny Bauer said. “Everyone played well and everyone contributed. When the subs came in there was no drop-off.”
The Cougars head to Manteca Friday.
Mallory Weiler scored eight and Lyssa Allen had nine as Sierra had little trouble handling the Mustangs.
Bryttni Griffin had eight rebounds.
Sierra plays for the Valley Oak League crown against East Union Thursday.
The Squires (q1-1 VOL, 18-4) upheld their end of the VOL title bargain, downing the Hawks Tuesday night to set up Thursday’s showdown at the Dalben Center.
Brittany LaMar was fantastic, scoring 18 and grabbing 14 boards for a double-double, and Morgan Hulsebosch added 20 more.
Briona Fontenot and Gabby Molina both had six, and Millicent Puahi-Olangca had seven assists.
Aireene Curry had 16 and Gabby Escobedo added 11 for the victorious Buffaloes.
Freshman
Kristen Piasacki had 18 points, while Stephanie Bishop, Gina McCabe and Allison Telles all had six in the win.
Mia Ramirez had 17 points, but it went for naught as Manteca fell on a buzzer-beater.
Lia Unterholzner had seven points, four rebounds and four steals in the T’Wolves’ win.
Kelly Paredes had six, six rebounds and three steals, and Shelby Shirron had four points, six rebounds and eight steals.
“We were a little slow today with one out sick and two other playing sick,” Sierra head coach Steve Unterholzner said. “I was happy with the way the others stepped up and played hard.”
