Manteca residents Faith Chavez and Alexis Vilarino played key roles in Elk Grove Evertan’s run to the NorCal State Cup under-10 championship over the past two weekends at Woodward Park.

Elk Grove Evertan came from behind to beat the Santa Rosa Tremors 2-1 in the title game.

In the semifinals, Vilarino produced a goal in a 2-0 victory over the Mustang Pride. Chavez started in the midfield and sparked several attacking runs.

Elk Grove Evertan has won six tournament titles since the Manteca tandem joined the squad and are gunning for No. 7 this weekend in the Nike Harvest Cup in Southern California.

Manteca Stars
The Manteca Stars under-19 girls squad defeated crosstown rival Manteca Mustangs in a heart-thumping shootout for the MASL/SYSA Tournament championship Sunday.

After the two teams battled to a scoreless tie in regulation, Lauren Sveum put the Stars up with a goal in the first five-minute overtime period. The Mustangs knotted it in the second overtime to send it to a shootout.

Hilary Coleman, Joanna Maxwell, Kelsey Gormley and Gianna Luchhetti converted their penalty kicks, and goalie Lindsey Smith stopped four of seven shots to preserve the victory.

Manteca Sporting
The Sporting boys claimed the Tri-Valley Tournament’s under-14 title at Northgate Park Nov. 14 and 15, beating two Tracy teams by a combined 11-0 score in the process.

Sporting battled Manteca Area Soccer League foe Manteca Lobos to a 3-3 draw.

In the final game, Franklin Guardado scored twice in a 6-0 victory. Other goals were provided by Eric Avalos, Sal Arias, Eduardo Avalos and Adrian Anguiano.

Sporting kicked off tournament action with a 5-0 win against the other Tracy team. Eduardo Avalos netted two goals. Guardado and Arias added one apiece, and the fifth was an own goal.

Sporting’s tie with the Lobos was good enough to get them to the championship round. Guardado punched in two more goals, with the other coming from Simon Torres.

Manteca Arsenal
The Arsenal clinched the under-12 girls inter-league championship with a 1-0 victory over Tracy Spirit one week after claiming the Manteca Area Soccer League crown.

Kayla Lecce scored the lone goal off a penalty kick, and Cheyenne Davidson recorded her third shutout.

Defenders Kayla Terry, Samantha Sanchez, Cecily Gallardo and Shelby Kuperus set the tone in the tournament opener against the Tracy Annihilators. Ashlee Miller and Emily Herrera helped control the middle along with Lecce.

The Arsenal defeated MASL runner-up Fury in Game 2, with goals coming from Sara Vegas and Gallardo. Anny Larson, Carrie Buckley, Jocelyn Patane and Emily Hazen also provided strong play on the attacking third.
