Sierra got off to a hot start Thursday at home, scoring five runs in the first inning.
Turns out one would have been enough.
Jordan Ribota (4 IP), Luis Barraza (2 IP) and Andy Scott were phenomenal on the bump, combining for a 12-strikeout shutout as Sierra claimed a 6-0 victory.
Barraza hit a two-run single in the first, and Joey Valencia drove another home.
Louie finished with an RBI of his own, and Scott legged out a triple.
Sierra (1-0) collected six knocks to Livingston’s two.
The T’Wolves sophomore squad won 10-0.
Denair 9, Ripon Christian 5
Denair scored five through the first three and took a 9-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
Junior Josh Welch got the start and was solid, allowing just two earned runs and striking out five.
Three fielding errors, however, spelled doom for the Knights.
Matt Unruh finished with a double and run scored, Robbie DeVries was 2 for 4 with a run scored, and Welch contributed a knock and an RBI to help his own cause.
The Knights (1-1) are still missing four players from RC’s playoff basketball team.
Ripon Christian travels to Big Valley for a scrimmage Saturday.
Johansen Tournament
Tokay 8, Manteca 5
The Buffaloes held a lead with one out in the seventh, but couldn’t wrap up the win after a costly fielding error opened the gates for the Tigers.
Ryan Knisely went 2 for 3 and Sam Jorgensen was 2 for 4.
Kevin Allen (2 for 4) went yard with a three-run jack in the fifth and finished with four RBIs.
Curtiss May went five innings, allowing four earned.
“We played well, we only had one error,” Manteca head coach Gene Ballardo said. “We just need to learn how to close the game out.
“It’s still early in the season. We have some things to iron out. We’re trying different guys at different positions, trying to get ready for league.”
Manteca (2-1) closes out the Johansen Tournament Saturday against Johansen at 9:15.
