Former high school standouts shine for MJC

The Modesto Junior College men’s track and field team claimed 12 of 19 events at the Hartnell Rotational.
Former East Union High standout Abdiel Martinez-Ramos was a part of the winning mile relay team also consisting of Terrance Green, Cameron Brown and Remington Blair.
Also featured at the meet was 2006 Bulletin Cross Country Runner of the Year John Rea, a Weston Ranch graduate. Rea earned gold in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10 minutes, 46 seconds.
Atwater native Rusty Price led MJC with wins in the shot put (51 feet, 9 inches), discus (163), hammer (173-11) and javelin (144-02). Price owns the best shot put, discus and hammer marks in the state so far this season.
Other MJC winners were Green in the 200 (22.15), Remington Blair in the 400 (48.98), Anthony Mallory in the 1,500 (4:12.82), Lamon Shears in the 400 hurdles (57.27), David Dosanjh in the pole vault (15-3) and Jordan Lefler in the high jump (6-1).

Under-11 Pumas
In Turlock, the Tracy Futbol Club under-11 girls Pumas kick started indoor soccer with a 7-0 victory over Chivas on Valentine’s Day.
Playing up against under-12 competition, the Pumas, whom are led by several Mantecans, got two goals from Isabella Cardenas. Alexis Phillips, Miriam Garibay, Janis Rivera, Rebekah Bonds and Amanda Beck each chipped in a goal.
Jasmine Basuil and Carsyn Hoogendoorn contributed an assist apiece.
Under-10 Sharks
The Manteca Area Soccer League under-10 girls Sharks improved to 6-0-2 in the Bill Meyer Winter League season with two more victories this past weekend.
Britney Moneyhun scored twice and Sierra Martinez added a goal to highlight the Sharks’ 3-0 win over Lodi. Paige Gines, Kaitlynn Funsch and Patricia Tajii each turned in an assist. Goalkeeper Bailey Glover recorded the shutout and was aided by defender Aleah Jarin. Chloe Benham played well at midfield.
Moneyhun struck again in Game 2, blasting in a goal in a 2-0 win against Atwater. Alison Hoyer accounted for the other score, with Phoebe Roberts and Gines credited with the assists. Kaleigh Dole worked the shutout at goal this time with help from fullback Alison Bitle.
