SAN JOSE (AP) -- Bryce Johnson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth inning, giving the San Jose Giants a 9-8 victory over the Modesto Nuts on Friday.
Wander Franco scored the game-winning run after he hit a two-run single, advanced to second on a single by Brandon Van Horn and then went to third on a walk by Matt Winn.
The play capped an improbable comeback for the Giants, who scored five runs in the inning for the win. Franco hit a two-run single earlier in the inning to help set the stage for the game-winning score.
The Nuts took an 8-4 lead in the top of the ninth when Evan White scored on a double play.
Patrick Ruotolo (1-0) got the win in relief while Michael Koval (0-1) took the loss in the California League game.
The seven extra-base hits for San Jose included a season-high six doubles.
For the Nuts, Nick Zammarelli homered and singled twice, driving in four runs.
