The Manteca Buffaloes freshman football team had to bounce back from a loss.

East Union came into the contest with nothing to lose.

The Lancers nearly pulled off the upset, racing to a halftime lead before falling to the Manteca Buffaloes 28-20 Thursday in Valley Oak League freshmen football play.

The Buffaloes trailed the Lancers 14-7 at the half, but would answer in a mighty way when running back Dakari Charles scored on a 15-yard touchdown run and gave Manteca its first lead of the second half.

Manteca got strong play from Marcus Rivas who bruised his way to 228 yards and two touchdowns. Jason DeFrenchy also scored a rushing touchdown for the team.

The Buffaloes close out a 3-year run with an impressive 28-2 record.
