The Manteca Buffaloes could not have drawn up a more perfect opening to the Valley Oak League season, blasting the Kimball Jaguars 62-0 in their first-ever VOL contest Friday at Kimball High.

The Buffaloes (1-0 VOL, 4-0 overall) put up 48 unanswered first-half points on their way to their biggest offensive onslaught of the season. Quarterback Matt Burrows led the way, completing eight of 10 passes for with four touchdowns.

“It was nice for us to execute early so that our young kids were able to play quality time,” Manteca head coach Eric Reis said. “Kimball High will be very good soon. Their quarterback is only a sophomore, but he is very skilled and very courageous.”

The Buffaloes had little difficulty putting points on the board, scoring touchdowns in three of the four quarters, closing with a pair in the fourth quarter.

Manteca junior Jamontee Jones led the ground game, breaking loose for 164 yards on 16 carries with a pair of touchdowns. Robert Ladiges toted the ball seven times for 103 yards and a score. Michael Timmins, Jessie Smith, Ryan Culpepper and Matt Mueller all hauled in Burrows touchdown passes.

Manteca will take on another winless team Friday when it hosts the Weston Ranch Cougars at 7:15 p.m. The Cougars fell 41-18 in their VOL opener at home against Sonora.
