OAKDALE – The Lancers blanked the Mustangs in the fourth quarter but that was not enough to narrow the gap at the Corral.

CERES – A missed conversion run and a fumble return for a touchdown proved to be instrumental for the Spartans in their first-ever Western Athletic Conference contest.

The Bulldogs scored first in the second quarter on a 4-yard run but came up short on the conversion attempt. With Ceres leading 14-8 thanks to a third-quarter punt return for a touchdown, Harold Gary returned the favor when he gobbled up a fumble and rambled 54 yards to tie the score. Amario Valdovinos (12 carries, 53 yards) then gave Lathrop the lead for good with his second conversion run of the day.

Luis Hernandez (7 of 16 passing, 107 yards) got the Spartans on the board with a 70-yard scoring pass to Andres Cisneros-Pena in the second quarter. Jason Seabron added one carry for 31 yards.

The Bulldogs made it in the red zone four times and only scored once with Gary being a monster on defense with 15 stops, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Josiah Pena made five tackles with Noah Martinez (three passes defended), Cinseros-Pena (two passes defended) and Christopher Ray (pass defended) each making four stops and Valdovinos three. Jaden Prieto added an interception.
