Make it seven straight shutouts for the Ripon Chiefs junior varsity.

The Escalon Outlaws defense wasn’t too shabby either in the Motherlode Valley Football League semifinal at Riverbank High. It was, of course, the Chiefs’ ‘D’ that set up the deciding score of a 6-0 victory.

Early in the first quarter, Anthony Sanchez got his hand on a pass, and Derric Roy reeled in the interception to give the undefeated Ripon team possession inside the red zone. On the next play, Michael Solario rambled to the end zone from 15 yards out. The point-after kick was blocked, but the Chiefs did enough damage on the touchdown scamper.

Roland Davis continued Ripon’s defensive dominance with a key sack in the second quarter. Gregory Clark, Chris Albritton, Aaron Stevenson and Adam Wood were other big contributors for the defense.

The Chiefs ended Escalon’s last-ditch effort to continue its season when Aiden Benzinger picked off a pass and returned it to the Outlaws’ 20. Ripon took a knee to run the clock down and secure its spot in the MVFL Super Bowl.

The JV championship will be played this Saturday at Sonora High. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
