RIPON — Two big plays by Stone Ridge Christian’s Jonathan Collazo and a missed extra point by Ripon Christian proved to be the difference Friday night as Stone Ridge Christian eked out a 14-13 win over host Ripon Christian in non-league football action.
Collazo scored on two long plays – an 80-yard run in the second quarter and a 67-yard pass from Jacob Tanori in the third period that put Stone Ridge Christian (2-0) ahead to stay, 14-13.
Other than those two plays, Ripon Christian just about shut Collazo down as he had that one reception and just 22 more yards rushing for 102 total rushing yards.
Michael Kamps scored both touchdowns for Ripon Christian (1-1) in the second quarter. The first one came on a 1-yard run and the second on an 8-yard pass from Mark Ozenbaugh.
Stone Ridge avenged its lone regular-season loss from 2015 when Ripon Christian edged the Merced-based Knights, 35-28. Ripon Christian’s Knights will look to right the ship next week when they plays host to East Nicolaus, the CIF State Division VI-AA champion which defeated Stone Ridge in the NorCal Regional Bowl Game.
