MARIPOSA – At first it looked like it was going to be another Southern League slugfest.
But once Ripon Christian found traction in its road game at Mariposa Friday night there wasn’t anything the Grizzlies could do to stop them.
After trading touchdowns in the first quarter, Ripon Christian held Mariposa scoreless and tacked on three more scores in a 27-8 victory to improve to 7-2 on the year and 4-2 in league play.
Travis Zuidervaart was a crucial piece of the Knights victory by finishing the game 10-of-19 from the pocket for 253 yards a pair of touchdowns. His favorite target was Jonah Lewis, who hauled in four passes for 144 yards and both of the team’s touchdown passes.
But it was Derek Dotinga that serves as the workhorse.
Dotinga carried the ball 40 times for Ripon Christian – racking up 234 yards on the ground and adding a touchdown for good measure.
The Knights will travel to Delhi next week where they will take on the Hawks to close out the regular season. They secured a berth in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs with their win last week at Denair, and will look to improve their playoff berth in next week’s contest.
