Escalon High beats Madison to become CIF champions

CARSON (AP) — Josh Miguel ran for two touchdowns and 104 yards on 25 carries to lead Escalon to a 30-14 victory over Madison of San Diego in the CIF Division III state football championship game Saturday.

Adrian Cortez added 103 yards on 21 carries for the Cougars (14-1). Quarterback Gino Franceschetti threw for one touchdown and ran for another.

Chase Knox threw for two touchdowns and 189 yards while completing 13 of 30 passes for the Warhawks (12-1). But Knox was sacked four times and threw an interception.

Escalon’s defense forced five turnovers, four on fumbles, and made five sacks. As a linebacker, Cortez recovered two fumbles and made a sack.
