EU game to be made up today at Bear Creek

John Alba made the tough game-time decision Friday.

With threatening lightning conditions, the East Union High principal opted for safety first, canceling the Lancers non-league game at Dino Cunial Field to Bear Creek.

The game will be made up today at 7 p.m. but will be moved to Bear Creek in Stockton.

“Based on the timing (of the lightning storm), we cannot continue to push the time back for kickoff of the game,” he said.

East Union officials allowed for about half-hour to pass between each lightning sighting. Base on that, the game would have been pushed back past 8 p.m.

Shortly before 7:30, Alba chose not to take that chance.

“Obviously, we’re disappointed,” said first-year Lancers coach Willie Herrera. “The kids were pumped up, they wanted to play and put behind last week’s loss (to Orestimba).”

Nor were any refunds distributed. Those looking to get their money back were asked to contact the school.
