Visiting Gregori of Modesto used the long ball Thursday to defeat Manteca 22-12 in non-league freshman football action at Guss Schmiedt Field

The Jaguars never trailed and scored first on a long pass play late in the first quarter, returned the second-half kickoff for a touchdown and with 3:30 left in the third quarter scored on a long run.

Late in the first half Krys Charles made an interception for the Buffaloes which set up a 28-yard touchdown pass from Charles (2 of 3 passing, 46 yards) to Jonathon Aranda with 53 seconds remaining in the second quarter to come within 14-6.

Midway through the third quarter Manteca’s Calvin Ramsey (10 carries, 89 yards) bulled the ball in from the 1-yard line to draw within 14-12, but that was as close as the Buffaloes would come.

Aiden Twiggs led Manteca with five tackles while Aranda had three tackles and Destin De La Torre made an interception.
