Aaron Paschini was looking to go out of state to play football until he received a call from Humboldt State.
“This was sort of last minute (on going to Humboldt),” he said Tuesday during his official signing day in the Ripon High gym.
He was joined on this special day by his folks Josh Sarratt and Tess Paschini, siblings, friends, teammates and coaches.
“Aaron really stepped it up this year,” said Indians coach Chris Musseman. “He wasn’t just a great player, but he also became a great leader.”
A standout two-sport athlete — Paschini is in his third year of varsity basketball for Ripon under Rod Wright — he tallied 1,554 receiving yards on 98 catches, scoring 13 touchdowns during his two years a wide receiver for the Indians, according to Max Preps.
Paschini also played in the defensive backfield but saw limited action there this year due to a shoulder injury, Musseman said.
Paschini is looking forward to playing NCAA Division II football. Humboldt, under coach Rod Smith, took claim of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a 6-5 mark.
He’s planning to major in Kinesiology.
Paschini had looked into playing college football for either Sterling College in Kansas or Culver-Stockton College in Missouri.
He’s thrilled that Humboldt entered into the picture.
Paschini gets to live his college football dream in his home state.
