Knights offense finds its groove

DENAIR — Billy Marr threw for a season-high 256 yards and four touchdowns as the Ripon Christian offense finally found its groove in a 31-0 rout of Denair.

The Knights improved to 3-2 in the Southern League and 6-2 overall.

Marr’s favorite target was tight-end Jared Stuit, who caught six passes for 136 yards and touchdowns of 23 and 21 yards.

Wide receivers Jonah Lewis and Ethan McMurray also had touchdown catches. Lewis took his only reception 74 yards, while McMurray capped the scoring with a 27-yard scoring grab with 10 seconds left in the first half.

The Knights’ defense continued its stellar play, limiting the Coyotes (0-5, 2-6) to just 163 yards with one interception.

In Modesto, the Spartans (1-4, 2-6) were held to less than 100 yards of offense while Central Catholic (4-1, 6-2) scored the first 48 points of the game.

Justin Rice accounted for four of the Raiders’ first five touchdowns, including runs of 71 and 54 yards.

Lathrop scored its touchdowns on record-breaking plays. With 20 seconds left in the third quarter, Keenan Donatelli returned a kickoff 98 yards to get the Spartans on board. His school-record return didn’t last long. With about 4 minutes to go, Reggie Carter ran one back 99 yards to complete the final score. Matt Hernandez booted both PATs.
