Lancers gallop past Lathrop frosh

Joe Luna scored three touchdowns Thursday to lead East Union to a 28-0 win over host Lathrop in the Valley Oak League freshman football opener at Bennie Gatto field.
Anthony Salcido got the first two scores for the Lancers – one on a 3-yard touchdown run with 7:56 left in the second quarter and another on a safety with 1:42 remaining in the half.
Luna then posted two touchdowns before halftime. He pulled in a 3-yard pass from Daniel Morales (4 for 5 passing, 77 yards) with 52 seconds showing on the clock and on the last play of the first half Morales returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown and a 21-0 lead.
Late in the third quarter Morales returned a punt 37 yards for a touchdown.
Alex Duenas led the Lancers ground game with 50 yards on seven carries. Sergio Villanueva had 56 yards on 19 carries for the Spartans.

Oakdale 54, Sierra 7
The visiting Timberwolves did not get on the board Thursday until Victor Murillo sprinted 14 yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter.
Murillo was 6 of 15 passing for 62 yards and Nicco Cedolini had two receptions for 19 yards.
Nyco Mendoza led the Sierra defense with eight tackles. Cedolini and Bryant Obregon each added five tackles.
