Aiden Nicolas scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns for the Manteca on Thursday, but that was not enough as Oakdale went home from Guss Schmiedt Field with a 47-27 Valley Oak League freshman football win.
Nicolas (five carries, 38 yards) scored from 20 yards out early in the fourth quarter to draw the Buffaloes within 27-20 only for the Mustangs to pull away later in the period with two touchdowns in a 30-second time span. Following the second Oakdale touchdown of the quarter Nicolas scampered 75 yards with the ensuing kickoff to make the score 40-20.
Manteca never led but came within a point early on when Jonathon Aranda pulled in a 4-yard scoring pass from Krys Charles early in the second quarter to come within 7-6. Following two more Mustangs touchdowns, Victor Aguilar busted up the middle for a 7-yard scoring run late in the third period to make the score 27-14.
Charles (five carries, 58 yards) was 6 of 10 passing for 59 yards with Aranda pulling in all six completions. Nicolas tallied eight tackles, Aiden Twiggs seven and Charles four. Aranda made an interception and Mario Hernandez recovered an onside kick.

Lane Cefalu ran hard and filled in for Anthony Corrales for the Lancers but the East Union offense just could not find its rhythm.
Cefalu had 17 carries for 53 yards.
Frank Alvarez led the Lancers defense with nine tackles. Cefalu made eight stops and Gomez intercepted a pass. Zelmar Vedder kept the Raiders from scoring when he intercepted a pass in the end zone late in the first half.
