Oakdale High got all it needed with a 28-point outburst in the opening quarter before letting the reserves take over from there in a 54-6 drubbing of East Union Friday at The Corral.

The Valley Oak League’s five-time defending champion scored all of its points before East Union (1-3, 1-6 overall) got on board with Mark Aguilar’s 2-yard run with 5:16 left in the game. The senior running back paced the Lancers with 98 rushing yards.

East Union’s spread offense had trouble getting untracked for most of the contest, accumulating 135 total yards (82 rushing, 37 passing) while Oakdale harassed its quarterbacks for six sacks. The Mustangs (4-0, 6-1), meanwhile, trampled their way to 548 yards of offense with 280 coming on the ground.

Three Oakdale quarterbacks, including standout senior Spencer Thomas and promising freshman Adam Olsen, combined to complete all 11 of their passes. Thomas was in on three of the Mustangs’ four first-quarter scores, hitting Austin Jones (4 receptions, 111 yards) and Dewayne Finney on 34- and 75-yard passes, respectively, before hauling in a 30-yard scoring toss from Olsen

Fullback Nikk Ryan scored the second of his two touchdowns early in the second quarter, and Marcus Northcutt’s 30-yard run made it 41-0 with 29 seconds remaining in the half.
