DELHI — Ripon Christian is on its way to the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs, but getting a top seed is now in doubt following a disappointing 10-6 loss to Delhi on Friday.
The Hawks (2-5 Southern League, 4-6 overall) was held out of the end zone until Alecxis Miranda hooked up with Alvin Prasad for a 22-yard touchdown pass with 42 seconds remaining in the game. Ripon Christian (4-3, 6-4) was able to cross the Delhi 40 on its final drive of the contest before time ran out.
Delhi’s season ends on a high note after sustaining three one-point losses that keep it out of the playoffs.
The Knights outgained their opponent 286-156 on offensive yardage but were done in by three turnovers. They took a 6-3 lead into halftime after Max Steele’s 3-yard touchdown with 1:17 left. Benji Aguilar earlier nailed a 40-yard field goal for Delhi.
Michael Kamps led Ripon Christian with 70 yards on 19 rushes to go with five tackles and a fumble recovery on defense. Defensive end Willem Hoeksra added a sack, forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Running back Anthony Mejia was Delhi’s most productive offensive player with eight carries and 34 yards.
Ripon Christian will find out today where it lands in the SJS Division VII bracket. The section will unveil brackets with an online show starting at 4 p.m. via the NFHS Network.
