Manteca slams Enochs in non-league play

Jacob Van Groningen threw for two touchdowns to Declan Van Vuren and added a key conversion throw Friday to lead Ripon Christian to a thrilling 22-14 come-from-behind victory against visiting Summerville-Tuolumne in non-league sophomore action. 

Von Groningen (9 of 19, 136 yards, two touchdowns, interception) tied the game at 7-7 with his first touchdown toss to Van Vuren, a 20-yard throw with 1:43 left in the first half. With 8:38 remaining in the game Van Vuren pulled in a 45-yard scoring toss to bring the Knights within 14-13.

Ripon Christian went for a two-point conversion and got it when Van Gronigen spotted his favorite target Ian Vrieling (four receptions, 58 yards) and went ahead 15-14. While trying to run the clock out the Knights got one more score on a 5-yard run by Jadon Booth (eight carries, 55 yards) with 30 seconds left in the game. 

Drake Nelson added nine carries on 27 yards for the Knights.

Nick Ochoa recovered an onside kick for Ripon and along with Wyatt Nichelson made eight tackles. Vrieling (fumble recovery), Danton Indelicato and Nelson added six stops and Jadon Booth made five.

East Union 47,

Johansen-Modesto 12

The Lancers’ Eric Morales and Dennis Crum both accounted for more than 100 yards to help lead East Union to 40 first-half points at Dino Cunial Field. 

Morales was 5 of 8 passing for 108 yards with 56-yard touchdown pass to Nicco Cedolini and a 25-yard scoring throw to Lorenzo Contreras. Crum had 143 yards on just five carries with touchdown runs of 47 and 25 yards. Anthony Salcido (four carries, 71 yards) added a 30-yard scoring run, Jonathan Ponce scored from 11 yards out and Leo Bonilla bulled in a score on a 1-yard plunge. 

Bonilla was in on 14 tackles with a forced fumble. Alex Duenes (fumble recovery) made five tackles and Cedolini (interception) added three stops.

 

Manteca 38,

Enochs-Modesto 0

MODESTO – Dom Rea had over 200 multi-purpose yards and four touchdowns for the Buffaloes in their non-league road win.  

Rea (10 carries, 56 yards; two receptions, 64 yards) scored on a 6-yard run, on passes of 23 and 41 yards from Ryan Ward (6 of 10 passing, 142 yards) and on a 77-yard punt return. Gabe Ramirez (three carries, 40 yards) added a 1-yard scoring run. 

Sergio Espinoza had three carries for 35 yards and Isaac Searcy had four carries for 21 yards. 

Isaac Searcy made two catches for 57 yards and J.R. Escobar had two receptions for 21 yards. 

Evans Nicolas led the Manteca defense with nine tackles.  Gabe Ramirez (forced fumble) added five stops, Searcy and Garren Genilla (fumble recovery) four apiece and Rea (forced fumble, fumble recovery) and Joseph Saylor had three stops each.
