The Lathrop sophomore football hung with the Indians on Ripon High’s homecoming night but couldn’t keep up with their balanced rushing attack in a 28-7 loss last Friday.

The Spartans fell to 1-2 going into next week’s Valley Oak League opener with Weston Ranch.

Quarterback Diego Chavez had 94 yards on 7-of-11 passing. Keenan Donatelli-Bryant snared three of those tosses for 67 yards, while Alex Valencia caught three for 23 yards. Jackari Thompson was Lathrop’s rushing leader with 56 yards on 14 carries. Valencia (12 rushes, 37 yards) also contributed to the ground game.

Santiago paced the defense with seven tackles. Valencia finished with six, and R.J. Tisdale added five.
