Running back Nikko Juarez scored touchdowns on half of his eight carries, and Owen Gully was perfect on his seven pass attempts — three of which went for touchdowns — as Valley Oak League-leading Manteca mauled Mountain House on the road last Friday, 63-24.
Juarez gashed the Mustangs (1-3 VOL, 2-6 overall) for 165 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 20.6 yards per rush. Gully finished 7-of-7 for 191 yards with a TD pass each to Jayden Harris (70 yards), Jaylin Harris (three receptions, 86 yards) and Nate Slikker (9 yards).
Fullback Maava Tialavea (four rushes, 45 yards) and Quinn Martinez (61 total yards) each added touchdown scamper. Manteca ran just 28 offensive plays but still compiled 455 yards.
The Mustangs, to their credit, showed some fight in the early going and ended up scoring the most points against Manteca’s stingy defense so far this season.
Explosive dual-threat quarterback Erin Foster had a part in all three of Mountain House’s scores. He completed nine of 16 passes for 178 yards and a 45-yard touchdown connection with Jacoby Johnson; ran for 105 yards on 13 carries; and returned a kickoff 95 yards to paydirt. Callahan Healy (five receptions, 80 yards) chipped in a field goal for the Mustangs.
Manteca hosts rival East Union on Friday starting at 7 p.m.
Summerville 30, River Islands 13
River Islands again showed well against one of the Mother Lode League contenders but dropped its fourth straight defeat.
The visiting Bears (3-1 MLL, 5-2 overall), a reigning Sac-Joaquin Section and state champion, did not pull away until late in the fourth quarter. After converting a field goal to lead by 10 with 4:26 left, Summerville intercepted a halfback pass on the next play from scrimmage and secured the victory with a touchdown.
Quarterback Daryl Carpenter completed nine of 16 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown pass each to Christian Dell’Osso (four receptions, 41 yards) and George Dayeh (four receptions, 67 yards). Carpenter was also the leading rusher for the Riptide (0-4, 1-6) with 42 yards on four attempts.
With its toughest stretch now behind it, River Islands has a chance to end the regular season with some momentum with three teams that are a combined 4-17. Up first is Bret Harte this Friday at home.
