ROUNDUP: Unbeaten Ripon JV repels Escalon

 Ripon remained undefeated on the season with a 14-7 win Friday over visiting Escalon in junior varsity Trans-Valley League action at Stouffer Field.

Late in the third quarter, Ripon’s Ace Dougherty spun out of a tackle in the backfield on fourth-and-3 and converted that to an 18-yard insurance touchdown.

Dougherty led the Indians (5-0 TVL, 9-0 overall) with 88 yards on 15 carries. Kael Rangel added 52 yards on five carries and Matthew Gaines chipped in 51 yards on eight carries.

With 41 seconds remaining in the first period, Gaines (three receptions, 41 yards) pulled in a touchdown toss from Anthony Alves (7 of 11 passing, 87 yards) to put Ripon ahead 7-0.

The Cougars (1-4, 3-6) got on the board in the fourth period.

The Indians wrap up the season Friday at Hilmar at 5 p.m.


Ripon Christian 34, Orestimba 0

Jax Booth scored three touchdowns for the Knights

Booth (11 carries, 56 yards; three receptions, 77 yards) scored on a 47-yard pass from Josiah Van Vliet (7 of 10 passing, 138 yards) and on runs of 3 and 5 yards. Van Vliet posted a 26-yard touchdown run, and Jack DeJong added a 4-yard touchdown run. Talen Tameling whipped in 26 yards on three carries and 31 yards on two receptions.

DeJong and Van Vliet paced made eight tackles apiece, Tameling five and Tom Giulian four. Mason Clark snagged an interception.

Ripon Christian (3-2, 7-2) hosts Sonora to close out the season Friday at 5 p.m.


Manteca 33, Patterson 0

Luke Avila scored three touchdowns for the Buffaloes (4-1 Valley Oak League, 7-1-1) in the road win at Tigers Stadium.

Avila (14 carries, 131 yards) scored on runs of 13 and 16 yards and a 22-yard touchdown throw from Jeremiah Orona. Roman Duvernay (16 carries, 91 yards) added touchdown runs of 3 and 5 yards.

Dean Sortonis and Avila made six tackles apiece with three for Richie Robledo. Gabe Ramirez and Angelo Aguilar each recovered a fumble and Valentino Torres contributed to the defense.

The Tigers drop to 2-5, 2-6-2.

The Buffaloes host Oakdale on Friday at either Dino Cunial Stadium or Guss Schmiedt Field at 5 p.m.


Central Valley 21, Lathrop 8

The Spartans had an 8-7 halftime lead in the Western Athletic Conference road contest at Central Valley.

Damian Hermosillo got Lathrop (1-4-1 WAC, 1-7-1) on the board in the second period when he pulled in a 35-yard touchdown pass from Daryion Reyno. Jayden White (12 carries, 71 yards) bulled in the conversion run for the 8-7 lead.

The Hawks (5-1, 7-1-1) scored a touchdown in both the third and fourth periods.

Ekam Sohal, Ayden Louie and Aiden Remonida paced the Spartans defense.

Lathrop hosts Beyer on Friday at 5 p.m.


Sonora 21, East Union 20

The host Wildcats (7-2) scored 15 points in the fourth period for the come-from-behind non-league win at Dunlavy Field.

Max Abrew (13 of 23 passing, 253 yards, two interceptions) threw touchdown passes of 68 and 72 yards pass to Nikko Hisatomi (four receptions, 153 yards) and 16 yards to Blama Kamara (four receptions, 153 yards) for the Lancers (4-5). Gunnar Fay chipped in 45 yards on four catches.

East Union’s Maddox Morales made seven tackles with a forced fumble and fumble recovery. Hisatomi (interception) and William Ellis made five tackles apiece.

The Lancers (4-5) travel to Mountain House on Friday to wrap up the VOL schedule at 5 p.m..


Freshman

Manteca 47, Patterson 6

Brody Carabello threw for four Buffaloes touchdowns Thursday and ran for another.

Carabello (7-of-10 passing, 236 yards; two carries, 116 yards) threw touchdown passes of 22 yards to Brixton Menchaca-Ortiz, 23 yards to Bode Hiatt (three receptions, 81 yards) and 46 yards to Jesse Garibay (two receptions, 63 yards) along with a 98-yard touchdown scamper. Ka’ron Grisham (two carries, 54 yards) added a 30-yard scoring run and offensive lineman Zack Shelton scored from 3 yards out.

Menchaca-Ortiz made 10 tackles, Hiatt (forced fumble) six with three apiece for Grisham (forced fumble) and William Allison. Naythan Robledo made two interceptions and Josiah Moreno two. Damien Short defended five passes.

The Tigers drop to 0-6, 1-8 and Manteca (4-1, 7-2) travels to Oakdale on Thursday at 6 p.m.


Central Valley 24, Lathrop 12

The visiting Hawks (5-0, 9-0) scored all of their points in the first half.

Randal Wright (5-of-10 passing) hit Jaylen Santos with a 25-yad touchdown pass for the Spartans and Samari Sumpter (six carries, 30 yards) scored on a 3-yard run. Eshan Clair pulled in a 33-yard reception.

Lathrop’s Joshua Talalele made eight with a forced fumble and a punt block. Dario Joseph (three tackles) and Oscar Rivas Martinez each made an interception with Jacob Dash recovering a fumble.

Lathrop (4-2, 5-4) travels to Beyer on Thursday at 5 p.m.
