SONORA - The Sierra Timberwolves freshman football team scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, stunning the Sonora Wildcats with a 35-34 come-from-behind win Thursday in Sonora.

The Timberwolves would score their final touchdown with 50 seconds remaining in the Valley Oak League contest and went for the victory with a 2-point conversion on the PAT.

Sierra trusted its “jumbo” package at crunch time, pounding the ball in from the red zone and continuing with the formula for the conversion as well.

Brian Terrell scored four times for Sierra, rushing for a pair of scores, hauling in a touchdown reception and returning a kickoff and punt for scores.

Nick Oseguera led the Timberwolves ground game with 85 yards on 10 carries.

Manteca 20, Lathrop 14

The Manteca Buffaloes were able to stay perfect on the season, barely, fending off a determined Lathrop High squad by a score 20-14 Thursday in VOL play.

Manteca (5-0, 8-0 overall) held a 14-0 halftime lead and added a second half score to stay on top of the Spartans.

Darian Kitson and Dakari Charles both scored in the opening quarter for the Buffaloes, with Kitson scoring on a one-yard plunge and Charles breaking loose for a 54-yarder.

A 75-yard Lathrop scoring pass would chop Manteca’s lead in half. After another Manteca touchdown Lathrop would push across its final score late in the fourth.

The Buffaloes will be back on the field Thursday when they take on the Oakdale Mustangs for rights on a portion of their third consecutive VOL title.
