Sierra x-country boys, girls team advance

ANGELS CAMP – In the Sac-Joaquin Section Subsection Cross Country championships Saturday at Frogtown, Sierra advanced both its boys and girls varsity teams in Division 3 while Ripon Christian’s Hakyeom Park finished second in  the Division 5 boys race and East Union’s Marco Perez finished in the Top 10 of Division 3 boys.  

The Top 10 varsity teams, the Top 6 lower-level teams and all Top 10 individuals advance to the SJS championships next Saturday at Willow Hill in Folsom.

Park’s time of 17 minutes, 45.5 seconds on the 3-mile course brought home the silver medal. Perez finished 10th (17:01.9) in Division 3 and the Lancers finished fifth with Maury Ortiz (17:12.4, 12th), Charlie Sanders (17:47.5, 27th), Daniel Morales (17:58.4, 33rd) and Mark Murphy (18:33.9, 56th). 

The Sierra boys and girls both finished ninth in Division 3. Jesse Hurtado (17:32.1, 20th) paced the Timberwolves boys along with Irving Figueroa (18:29.0, 51st), Jerardo Salcedo (18:38.6, 59th), Sartaz Thind (19:08.5, 78th) and Axel Rios (19:14.2, 81st). Megan Oblin (21:03.9, 24th) led the Timberwolves girls followed by Sabrina Caldwell (22:24.1, 41st), Raiann Prieto (23:35.0, 52nd), Jenelle Rodriguez (24:15.9, 61st) and Jeida Lavender (24:26.1, 64th).

The Ripon girls – Lydia Waters (22:30.9, 26th), Madison Berry (23:01.6, 34th), Abbigael Williams (23:39.9, 44th), Aiko Dearth (23:53.7, 52nd) and Leah Vandorst (24:36.5, 59th) – finished ninth in Division 4.

The Ripon Christian boys were 10th in Division 5 After Park came Kalvin Gerdes (20:38.6, 40th, Josh Kim (21:27.0, 55th), Ethan De Jong (22:51.3, 70th) and Caleb Paulson (24:53.7, 81st).

On the 2-mile course, East Union’s sophomore boys finished second. Cooper Freeman (12:03.7) was sixth followed by Noe Acevedo (12:03.7, seventh), Abel Zuniga (12:39.1, 11th), Ruben Martinez (12:47.1, 15th) and Jesus Velazquez (12:50.3, 16th). The Lathrop boys of Joshua Medel (12:46.1, 14th), Jayvir Singh (13:06.0, 21st), Gael Franco (13:36.3, 37th), Gabriel Calub (13:45.4, 41st) and Angel Ojeda (14:09.4, 53rd) finished sixth.

 Led by Victoria Villalvazo’s eight-place finish (24:39.6), the Manteca girls finished third in Division 3-4-5 girls. Alannah Harden (28:36.8, 17th), Camilla Herrera (28:41.8, 18th), Alyssah Harnden (29:26.9, 20th) and Yasmeen Ramirez (30:00.8, 21st) rounded out the Buffaloes squad.

 Lathrop’s Wilen Hopkins was seventh (13:21.4) in Division 3 boys freshman.
