WATERFORD – Ripon Christian had a game plan that keyed on containing Wildcat quarterback Wade Hawkins.

Instead, Waterford’s Dylan Gonzalez did most of the damage Friday in the Southern League clash. The sophomore running back gained 238 yards on 27 carries, scoring twice to lead his team past the Knights, 29-7.

Ripon Christian (2-4, 2-7) was coming off consecutive wins after a 0-5 start.

“We moved the ball against Waterford early on,” Knights coach John Vander Schaaf said. “But once we go inside the 20, it was as if we were going uphill.”

Gonzalez scored the first of two touchdowns at the 8:10 mark of the first quarter. His 8-yard-dash coupled with Hawkins’ two-point conversion run gave the Wildcats an 8-0 advantage.

Waterford (4-2, 7-2) began to pull away in the second quarter.

Gonzalez had a 1-yard scoring plunge followed moments later by 52-yard interception return for a score by Phillip Taberna.

Hawkins made it 29-0 early in the third quarter, scoring on a 3-yard run.

Ripon Christian finally broke through early in the fourth on Isaac Norman’s 4-yard touchdown run. Zach Davis added the conversion kick.

The Knights will close out the regular season at Stouffer Field against Gustine.

In addition, RC will bid adieu to the seniors.

“We’re looking forward to the season finale,” Vander Schaaf said.
