DELHI — Ripon Christian put the finishing touches on its dominant title defense in the Southern Athletic League on Friday, coasting past winless Delhi, 49-0.
The Knights (7-0, 9-1 overall) surrendered just 14 points in their seven league contests and recorded five shutouts — six overall. They held the Hawks to minus 36 yards of offense while amassing 504 of their own.
Leading the charge was running back Sean McGovern, who rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns. He ran in his third score from 15 yards out midway through the second period, and Travis DeShields’ 13-yard scamper pushed Ripon Christian’s advantage to 35-0 by halftime.
Wyatt Nichelson and Jake Grondz contributed touchdown runs covering 4 and 36 yards, respectively. William Gilbert capped scoring with a 13-yard pass from Nolan Lingley with 5 seconds left in the third quarter.
Lineman Ty Mensonides starred on the defensive side, racking up eight tackles, a fumble recovery and a sack. Declan Van Vuren picked up his team-leading 14th sack of the season, and Wyatt Van Vliet also dropped the quarterback for a sack. Jacob Van Groningen contributed an interception.
