Navarro throws two TD passes in Lathrop win

LATHROP – Daniel Navarro threw for two touchdowns Friday to lead Lathrop to a 28-14 Valley Oak League sophomore win over Weston Ranch at Bennie Gatto Field.
Both of Navarro’s scoring tosses came in the second period – the first to Andrew Garcia of 26 yards and the second to Julian Chavez of 20 yards for a 20-0 lead. These followed a 9-yard scoring run by Isaiah Campero in the first period.
Late in the third quarter Isaac Ramos capped the Lathrop scoring with a 4-yard touchdown run.
Isaiah Campero made an interception for the Spartans and teammate Andrew Lam recovered a fumble.
The Cougars got on the board with two seconds left in the first half on a 55-yard pass play from Christian Garcia (6 of 9 passing, 98 yards, one touchdown, one interception) to Eric Shivers (three receptions, 89 yards; 11 carries, 63 yards) to come within 20-6. Garcia added a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter to make the score 28-14.
Weston Ranch’s Seth Cheadle intercepted a pass and Montrel Block recovered a fumble.

Central Catholic-Modesto 28, Manteca 20
Trailing 21-8 entering the third quarter the Buffaloes comeback fell short at Guss Schmiedt Field.
All three Manteca touchdowns came off the hand of Ryan Ward (9 of 15 passing, 201 yards). The first one was a 10-yard pass to Evans Nicolas in the first period and the other two were of 35 and 56 yards in the fourth period to Dom Rea (four receptions, 128 yards).
Isaac Searcy and J.R. Escobar also contributed to the Buffaloes offense.
Marc Buenrostro led the Manteca defense with six tackles and a forced fumble. Gabe Ramirez added five tackles, Garren Genilla (fumble recovery) four and Searcy, Rea and Joseph Saylor three apiece.
Oakdale 28, East Union 13
The Lancers scored in the first and fourth quarters at Dino Cunial Field.
 Leo Bonilla (eight carries, 37 yards) got East Union on the board with a 9-yard touchdown run. Dennis Crum (eight carries, 85 yards) added a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth period. Lorenzo Contreras added 48 yards on two catches.
Bonilla had 13 tackles and Alex Yang added seven stops.

Southern League
Orestimba-Newman 22, Ripon Christian 20
NEWMAN – Trailing 15-13 at halftime the Knights took the lead in the third quarter just to lose it in the fourth.
Jacob Van Groningan (9 of 18 passing, 136 yards) ran for one Ripon Christian touchdown and threw touchdown passes to Ian Vrieling (four receptions, 60 yards) and Jadon Booth (three receptions, 40 yards).
Drake Nelson led the Knights defense with 13 tackles followed by Wyatt Nichelson with 10 and Declan Van Vuren with an interception and a sack.

Trans-Valley League
Sutter 47, Ripon 6
The Indians did not get on the board until the fourth quarter at Stouffer Field.
Nico Ilardi played well on offense for Ripon and the Indians defense played tough, but the Huskies offense executed very well.

Central Catholic-Modesto 20, Manteca 16
MODESTO – There was no scoring for either team in the second half Thursday.
The Buffaloes’ Aiden Nicolas gave Manteca a shot in the arm to start the game when he returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. Jonathon Aranda (two carries, 59 yards) added a 55-yard touchdown run for the Buffaloes in the second period.
Calvin Ramsey added 53 yards on 12 carries and Nicolas had eight carries for 37 yards.
Nicolas led the Manteca defense with 10 tackles followed by Aiden Twiggs with nine and Dominik Neuharth with six.

Oakdale 41, East Union 0
