Stingy Ripon defense trips up Mustangs, Indians 2-0 on TVL

MOUNTAIN HOUSE – Ripon’s defense wasn’t happy about surrendering 35 points last week to a very good Hilmar team.

So they made sure to put their own points on the board to elevate the Indians (4-3, 2-0 TVL) to a 57-0 blowout victory Friday night over the Mountain House Mustangs to remain unbeaten in league.

“The defense tonight came in with a little bit of an attitude after what happened last week – they had a little bit of an edge,” head coach Chris Johnson said. “And to end up with a pair of scores like they did showed how fired up they were.

“Having a defense that scores points is a big edge for a team.”

While Ripon held Mountain House scoreless, they also showed absolutely no letdown after last week’s 52-35 victory over the Yellowjackets.

Not having any sort of dip in performance was the mark that Johnson was looking for even before the game started. He was thrilled with the result.

“Any time you’re going to play a team that’s overmatched there’s always a chance that there’s going to be a little bit of a letdown – that you’re going to play down a little bit,” Johnson said. “And this week we were big on making sure that we came in with some energy. And that showed.”
